1. What is Life Coaching?
Life coaching is a communication process in which a life coach assists the
client in accessing their own inner resources, qualities and capabilities to
achieve their desired outcomes. The process of life coaching leads to self
empowerment for the client. Through life coaching the client becomes more able
to manage their own life. Ideally after a number of sessions a client is able to
incorporate this process and be their own coach. Self management, self
empowerment.
2. What is at the heart of effective Life Coaching?
Great communication skills are at the heart of effective life coaching. A
skilled life coach understands the relationship between how people think and
communicate. They have an awareness of the relationship between language
patterns and behaviour. Inspiritive life coaches are trained to track the
assumptions and thinking processes of the client reflected in their use of
language. Being able to track the clients beliefs, behaviours and metaphors of
life enable the coach to ask appropriate and pertinent questions of the client.
This facilitates a deep self exploration for the client that often leads to
subtle shifts in the clients awareness that often makes all the difference in
making significant progress towards desired outcomes.
3. So why is NLP so useful for Life Coaching?
NLP provides a human technology for creating change. NLP is a technology whose
domain is the study of communication and thinking patterns. It studies the
relationship between language, thought and action. As Inspiritive life coaches
are comprehensively trained in NLP technology, they offer a considerable
advantage compared with most life coaches in terms of time, effectiveness and
quality.
4. How is Inspiritive Life Coaching different to counseling?
Traditionally, counseling tends to focus in on clients' problems. If you put
your attention to a problem behavior or problem emotion you can often intensify
the experience of the problem. In contrast skilled life coaches focus on the
clients desired outcomes. As clients attend to what they want resources can be
explored and gathered towards meeting those desires. However, keep in mind that
Inspiritive life coaches have the technology to facilitate change in any
problems that arise in relationship to the clients outcomes. Once again it is
about having the ability to track patterns of language and behavior. And then
knowing how to work with those patterns so that the client can make useful
changes in their lives. Counseling and most psychotherapy attends to and tends
to get caught up with the clients content, NLP attends to pattern and process,
the how. How is that individual or team organizing their experience? And how can
they reorganize their experience to achieve their outcomes?
5. Is coaching like therapy?
They’re actually quite different. Psychotherapy focuses on the past and on
emotional issues to help you understand yourself better. Coaching focuses on
the present, and on what you can do right now to create the future you want.
I’ll probably make suggestions that invite you to operate outside your
comfort zone, and I’ll provide encouragement and accountability as you take
steps toward your goals. Many of my clients have worked with a therapist in
the past, or currently do so. Many are in 12-step programs. I support
anything you can do to become aware of yourself and to understand what
issues block you from having the success and satisfaction you really want.
6. Is coaching confidential?
Absolutely. The working relationship we build together must be based on
knowing that I am completely trustworthy.
7. What is a coaching session like?
During a typical coaching session you’ll report on the successes and wins
you’ve had during the week and talk about obstacles you faced and how you
handled them. We’ll review your action plan and talk about how it's going.
And you can ask me for support in generating ideas and developing new
skills. I will help you become focused as you share ideas; as someone who
understands you and is there totally for you, I will be able to give you an
objective opinion.
8. How much does coaching cost?
Our first 45-minutes session is complimentary, so we can decide if we’re a
“good fit” for each other. Following that session, we generally meet 3 times
a month for three months with unlimited email in between. We can meet by
phone (“telecoaching”) or in person. Either way, I’d like to meet in person
at least once. Monthly fees range and are determined on a sliding scale.
Group coaching is available at a lower cost. We can also work on an hourly
basis if you have a specific needs such as resume writing or interview
preparation.
9. How long does it take to see results?
Positive results usually begin to manifest almost immediately because
coaching is goal-focused and action oriented. The funniest stories are from
those who call me for an complimentary consultation, and then get a great
job before our first appointment! That demonstrates the power of simply
deciding to take positive action. For some, coaching will become an ongoing
part of their business and personal success for at least 6 months.
10.What kind of problems can coaching address?
This is up to you, although you’ll probably want to take advantage of my
expertise in the career arena. Perhaps you need to learn to manage more
effectively, provide clear and open feedback to your employees, get promoted
at work, or change jobs within your company or industry. Or you might be in
transition in which case coaching can help clarify your career and life
goals and launch you down a new path.
11.How do I know if I’m ready for coaching?
If you’re ready to dig in and make a commitment to identify and achieve your
goals, then I recommend you call me and schedule a complimentary
consultation. By the end of the call, you will be absolutely clear if it's
time to get started and to use a coach.
